An ever-changing statement about my work.....

Artist Statement tells you about who I am and why I create....

Summer 2006 Artist Statement.....I’m inspired by medium and imagination. The medium of glass is a liquid that we experience as a solid –only in the flame can it be returned to its liquid state. Working glass at a torch  in its natural state, I can form the glass into what you will experience as a solid bead. What a fascinating concept – a solid liquid -  and is one that inspires my imagination. These small pieces of artwork come from my inner world of imagination, they are mythical creatures, talismans and representations of hands that create. Of all my creations, I treasure the glass hands most. The hand is a central theme in my life – my first drawing was of my hands, I use my hands to “talk” to Deaf friends, and I use my hands to create beads in glass.  To me, the hand is the ultimate talisman and because I feel that way, I usually have one tucked away in my pocket.

Summer 2004 Artist Statement....I love to work with my hands. I am a professional sign language interpreter, I sew, do woodwork, wirework, fiber art, paint and sculpt glass. Working with my hands allows me to create in a wide range of media with glass as the primary vehicle. My artwork is created primarily in soft glass. I spend many hours hours learning intimately the nature of each glass color. I use that knowlege to push the limits and expectations of soft glass.

Continuing to Grow as an Artist and Study Glass.....
